As we look to expand and grow our partnerships, we are looking for a dynamic, results- driven Coffee Buyer & Quality Controller to join our team. It’s important that candidates fit the criteria outlined below, and share the values we talk about above.

Coffee Buyer & Quality Controller

About the Role

The Coffee Buyer & Quality Controller is responsible for curating Obadiah’s seasonal coffee offering in line with our values for sourcing and roasting. They are responsible for the overall quality of Obadiah’s green coffee, and supporting the Lead Roaster in maintaining the quality of our roasted coffee output.

The role exists to develop and maintain relationships with green coffee producers and importers, procure a seasonal coffee catalog, organise contracts for green coffee stock in line with company budgets, maintain quality standards and support in other general areas as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Obadiah’s network of green coffee importers producers
  • Travel to origin to meet with suppliers and producers with the aim to develop relationships and source coffees
  • Assess coffee samples for quality with the intention to purchase
  • Purchase coffee and plan coffee forecasting
  • Curate a balanced, diverse coffee offering aligned with Obadiah’s values and quality standards
  • Conduct regular QC checks to ensure green and roasted quality standards are met
  • Conduct production roasting alongside roasting team
  • Attend collaborative tasting/brewing events or presentations
  • Attend industry networking events to develop supplier relationships and enhance Obadiah’s market presence

Qualifications

  • Experience in the specialty coffee industry, specifically in sourcing/roasting/quality assessment is desirable
  • Q Grader qualification desirable
  • A keen interest and understanding for specialty coffee is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse data and market trends
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
