Dose has been slinging great coffee for 15 years, we were in the vanguard for specialty coffee just as it was kicking off in London in 2009 and we’re still there. We’re right in The Square Mile, but close to The Barbican and residential pockets, we know nearly all of our customer’s names, it’s a great vibe here, part neighbourhood-part City. Dose is an accredited Living Wage employer.

We work on a combination of tried and tested machinery (Synesso Hydra/ Mahlkonig EK43) and new tech (Puqpress, Mahlkonig E80/65 GBW, Autocomb) arrived at through a constant interrogation of, and investment in workflow; how to make it better/faster/more enjoyable. We serve Square Mile (their first account in The Square Mile) and constantly rotating guest roasters, from the UK and around Europe.

Since London reopened post-lockdown we have consistently grown busier without compromising on anything, and now we need another hand on deck.

You’ll be part of a team of just five. There’s little hierarchy here and everyone on the team wears all the hats at one stage or another throughout the day. No bar-backs, we share it all. Shifts will include some food prep, nothing major, prepping toasties, potting yoghurt/bircher muesli and some baking. For one person each day, it’s about half of their shift. Oh, and we close at 3pm!

Personality is the biggest feature we look for. We can teach you how to make coffee to our standards; we cannot teach you how to be a nice person or train into you a strong work ethic. Customer service is just as important as the coffee so only confident, gregarious people who can think on their feet and aren’t afraid to get their hands into a sink full of dishes need apply. The successful candidate will also have an attention to detail that borders on obsessive; near enough is not good enough. Experience in speciality coffee is preferred, but not necessary, for the right person. We’re a small team, so you’ll be expected to do all aspects of hospitality service.

As we are a Living Wage Employer, you will start on £13.15 per hour. You’ll have 28 days of paid leave and pension contributions. You’ll work, on average, 35 hours per week and not normally work more than 40 hours. You’ll receive free food and unlimited coffee. 50% discount on retail coffee beans and packaged food & drink and retail coffee gear at cost. The hours are generally very sociable. Shifts range between 06:30-14:00 to 08:00-15:30 Monday to Friday, and 08:30-14:30 on Saturday. You will be available for 5 days/week including three Saturdays per month. Your day will normally be done by 15:30.

We will fund SCA Coffee Diploma courses and Barista Hustle education if you want to really expand your breadth of knowledge. So, if you aspire to a career in coffee, we will facilitate that.

Please include a covering letter with your CV, in which you introduce yourself and explain how you’ll benefit team, as per this job description.
